Most of us want to have a svelte and slim physique and work hard to achieve this. However, sometimes, no matter how much we watch what we eat or regularly exercise, small and stubborn pockets of fat can linger on areas such as the tummy, back, thighs and abdomen.

CoolSculpting is a fat removal system that utilises cryolipolysis to effectively ‘freeze’ fat cells to destroy them and eliminate them through natural lymphatic drainage. It is an FDA approved, clinically-proven method and is available here at Dr Preema Vig’s boutique clinic in Marylebone, London. CoolSculpting can be used on the face and the body and is suitable for both men and women.

Many of our patients ask several regularly occurring questions about CoolSculpting and to help you understand more about this procedure, we have listed a few of these FAQs below:

Where did CoolSculpting come from?

The idea that a cold treatment can selectively affect fat led to the innovative cooling process developed by scientists at the Wellman Centre for Photomedicine at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, a teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School.

Medical device company Zeltiq developed CoolSculpting as a result of this finding.

How do I know I am suitable for CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting can generally help anyone who is experiencing ‘pinchable’ areas of subcutaneous fat. It will not be suitable for those who have excessive amounts of visceral fat or who are clinically obese.

Prior to any treatment at our clinic, we ask that you attend a no-obligation consultation so that our team can assess your individual concern and check your medical history.

How does CoolSculpting work?

CoolSculpting works by placing a roll of fatty tissue into two panels that cool the fat to a freezing temperature. This causes the fat cell walls to be destroyed and the liquid within these walls to leak out.

Over time, the natural lymphatic process of the body eliminates the fluid, leaving a more svelte, slim appearance.

How many cycles of CoolSculpting will I need?

After a thorough consultation assessing the required concerns, a treatment plan will be made for you. We will discuss the number of CoolSculpting cycles which would be necessary to obtain optimal results.

Do I need anaesthetic with CoolSculpting?

Unlike invasive liposuction or Vaser surgery, CoolSculpting can be performed without anaesthesia or sedation.

Treatment time for CoolSculpting has been vastly reduced, as the clinic has invested in the latest upgrades to the devices and applicators – this also ensures optimal patient safety and results.

Each CoolAdvantage cycle takes only 35 minutes. Other specialised applicators may take 45 minutes, depending on the area you are treating.

We have 2 CoolSculpting® devices so 2 treatment areas can be cycled at the same time. This is also known as DualSculpting, and we are one of only a handful of UK CoolSculpting clinic sites to offer this.

Does CoolSculpting hurt?

CoolSculpting is not painful, although you may feel a very cold sensation and some slight pinching where the skin is pulled in to the device but this is by no means overly uncomfortable.

You’ll be wide-awake during the treatment and you can sit back and relax, read, check your phone, or even take a nap during the treatment. Our aim with CoolSculpting at Dr Preema London is to make you feel at home, and as comfotable as possible.

Is there any downtime? Will I need to take time off work?

There is no downtime following a session of CoolSculpting, though you may feel some tightness, tingling and swelling here the area has been treated. However, following your session, can resume your daily activities straight away.

When will I see the results of CoolSculpting?

Many people see and feel the results after one treatment session, comprising of multiple cycles of CoolSculpting. However, some patients choose to repeat this at a later date. Hundreds of our patients have been delighted with the results that CoolSculpting has given them.

Up to 20% of the subcutaneous fat loss can occur up to 2 months following CoolSculpting, and results have been recorded as lasting up to 5 years post treatment. We follow-up with all of our patients to keep track of their results.
